The very thought leaves one thinking, have you lost your mind?? Talk about being out of place. It is an attempt to force a happy refreshing time amid a hot, muggy, and sticky environment. It is like practicing optimism in hell. There’s nothing wrong with optimism when employed properly, but in many cases, typical leaders use optimism like pouring a sweet syrup over a pile of nasty manure. Sorry for the image, but facts are facts. Leaders who choose to employ this tactic are both out of touch and out of place …like Christmas in July. Authentic leaders never fail to stay connected to their people by embracing the nasty with them, while always maintaining an optimistic mindset as they lead through temporary misery on their way to mission success.

Have you been reaching for the syrup, or the shovel? Be careful, your team is watching.
