Be your people’s biggest FAN!

If there is one thing that makes all the difference in the health and welfare of a team or organization, it is what I call, “FAN-ship.” FAN-ship is to an employee what oxygen is to the body, and leaders who learn this, live and lead this! People that become the “heart and soul” of their organization follow a leader who gives their heart and soul to the team by becoming their biggest FAN.
Playoff season is a fun time for me because Fan-ship is most prevalent during the playoff season. You can see all types of “fans,” there are “Agenda driven fans” who want their team to advance their cause, you know betting on the team. Then there are the “Process driven fans” who want their team to execute without error. Then you have the “Results driven fans” who want their team to produce positive results, injured or not. Finally, you have the “Diehard fans” who believe in their team, no matter what. They simply dress up, show up, and shout out the value they hold for their team and its players.
I’ve been asked this question over the years and my answer is and has always the same. The question, “What can I do to promote and protect the health and welfare of my team or organization? The answer, “Become your people’s biggest diehard FAN.”
A diehard FAN is Faithful, Attentive, and Never miss the opportunity to speak up for, and praise their team.” So, it is with a diehard leader who practices “FAN-ship” daily. It makes sense that these leaders should where the title, “People driven fans.” These leaders are Faithfully committed to their people, they pay Attention to their health and welfare daily, and they Never miss the opportunity to promote their people as essential and valuable members of the team.
